Goals, measures, action
I have a dream
that one day. . .
There are two things on which all human well-being and success are based. One of them is that the purpose and goal of action is set correctly, the other is that the action leading to the goal is found.
(Aristotle)
Each of us must first be clear about where we actually want to go and how exactly we will get there.
IKIGAI
What's worth living for
Ikigai (jap. 生き甲斐 purpose of life) is loosely translated "that which is worth living for", "the joy and purpose of life" or casually put "the feeling of having something worth getting up for in the morning".
In Japanese culture, the often lengthy and thorough self-exploration involved in the pursuit and search for Ikigai has an important meaning. It is a highly personal process and the result can therefore vary greatly from individual to individual. When a person finds or has their Ikigai, it gives them a feeling of joy in life and thus inner satisfaction.

First, get clear on what you want to be;
and then do what you have to do.

You have to look for happiness along the way, not at the destination, that's where the journey ends.

If you want to harvest, you first have to scatter the seed.
(Shakespeare)
I systematically deal with my future by calmly picturing my future life, specifically documenting my ten most important goals in writing and providing them with the necessary measures. In doing so, I answer the important questions: Where do I want to go? How will I get there? And then I tackle my goals courageously by taking consistent action.
(calvin john camp)
People always blame circumstances for what they are. I do not believe in circumstances. The people who get ahead in this world are the ones who get up and look around for the circumstances they would like to have; and if they don't find them, they create them.
(George Bernard Shaw)
He who knows the goal can decide. He who decides finds peace.
(Confucius)
We do not have little time - only we have wasted much of it. Life is long enough and sufficient for the completion of the greatest deeds, if it were invested as a whole and well; but as soon as it melts away through waste and heedlessness, as soon as it is used only for bad purposes, then we realize only pressed by the utmost doom that it has passed - that it passes, we have not recognized.
(Seneca)
Carpe diem - enjoy/use the day.
(Horace)
If you do not at all times follow the natural goal in everything you do, but turn hastily in another direction, whether in avoidance or in pursuit, your actions will not conform to your principles.
(Epicur)
Man can do what he wants, but he cannot will what he wants.
(Arthur Schopenhauer)
goals + values
goals and values
Many people are careless with the time they have. You should not do that. Even if you don't think about it at the age of 20 or 25. Believe me: life is shorter than you think. And it's your job to make the most of the time you have. So let's start with the most important thing, the basic equipment of your rules of life. If you want to fill a toolbox, the first thing you will buy is a hammer and a pair of pliers. You need these two all the time, you fall back on them again and again. It is the same in life with your goals and values. If you don't have goals and values, you will be controlled. On the other hand, if you are clear about your own goals and values, you give your life a clear and self-determined direction, you take full responsibility for your life. My first important advice for you is: Set yourself goals! Take your life into your own hands.
If you don't take the time to realize what you want out of life, you can't live a happy life. Do not just expose yourself to external influences. Make sure that you yourself determine the circumstances of your life. Become the creator of your life and do not let others decide what is right for you. It is your life and you alone decide what to do with it. Goals and values in your life are something like fixed stars in the sky, to which you can always orientate yourself.
Goals ensure that you know where the journey should go. They set the direction in your life and prevent you from simply wandering haphazardly.
Goals = Where do I want to go?
Values ensure that you have a clear idea of who you want to be. They shape your character and reflect your ideals.
Values = Who do I want to be?
If you only approach your life somehow, you can be sure that it will end somehow and that you will arrive somewhere. Therefore, take your life into your own hands and do not let it become a plaything for others. Make sure that you act yourself and don't just react most of the time. In order to succeed, you must first carefully formulate what your goals are and how you want to achieve them. Just as you can collect items in computer games that make it easier for you to play, your goals and values will become your most important allies in the course of your life. They tell you at the decisive stations where you have to turn.
Everything begins with a dream. If this dream is strong enough and at some point determines my life in such a way that I can see it before my eyes, feel it, taste it and smell it, I pursue my associated goals all the more systematically and all the more passionately. There are enough examples of this, as the biographies of many interesting personalities prove. Be careful: a great deal of care is required here! Because dreams have the peculiarity that they actually come true at some point. Dreams and goals are ultimately the same thing. First you dream of a glorious future, then you cast your dream into measurable goals that allow you to act on the basis of concrete measures. That's it. Simply that. And yet so important. Successful people are not dreamers. They may have a big dream, but they don't settle for dreaming; at some point, they take the decisive step: they act. They tackle their goals with everything they have.
So let's tackle this important topic. Let's approach the whole thing a bit more systematically. What I recommend is - and as you will see, this does not only apply to the topics "goals and values" - to concentrate on the essentials. It always helps if you structure things clearly. In this case, that means focusing on a maximum of 10 goals. 5 might be too few, 15 too many. 10 goals, which I deal with calmly and very conscientiously, should be able to map my golden future very well. What you can do beyond that is formulate an overarching goal that all other goals "pay into". So my dear, what is your overarching goal that will ensure your dreams come true? Time to show your colors! Write down your goals. I've always done well by first creating a larger collection of topics (in this case, goals and values) and then structuring the whole thing afterwards. Structuring means: summarizing similar things, deleting superfluous things, setting priorities, evaluating. In this way you can build up your own personal goal system.
You should already add concrete measures to your goals, so that it does not remain with dreaming and so that you can immediately "move confidently in the direction of your dreams". Action means doing, making, having a concrete plan. Many people dream big, but never realize anything of it. This is where the successful person differs quite seriously from the normal person: in doing. A successful person gets things done. He is not satisfied with the status quo. Instead, he attacks, wants to know. You have already taken an important step with the systematic preparation of your dreams and goals. Step two consists of actually following up your findings with actions. And which actions are necessary and meaningful in your opinion - please record them in writing as measures together with the corresponding goals. In this way you answer the important questions: Where do I want to go? How do I get there?
There is only one success - being able to live according to one's own ideas.
