Conclusion

The factors for a good life and for my own personal success are well known. But to live these things is a real challenge. It is known that I can extend my life by an average of 14 years by four simple measures: not smoking, little alcohol, 5 portions of fruit and vegetables every day, some exercise. (1) But: self-control is a permanent struggle. Logically, there would be fewer conflicts in the world if humanity and tolerance were at the center of our actions. Unfortunately, selfishness often prevails. Education is a fine thing - but also really exhausting. That's why many never experience how positively knowledge changes their own lives. That's why many continue to wear no masks and vote for Donald Trump or the AFD. Get out of your comfort zone and bravely tackle new projects? At home on the sofa, everything is much more relaxed. Desire has perhaps never been more in the foreground than in the age of Facebook and Instagram. Never enough, there's always something missing for happiness. Some wise people actually believe that too much fame and too much money are detrimental to peace of mind.

It is convenient to blame others or external circumstances for everything. It is more costly and risky - at first glance - to take full responsibility for one's own life. In the end, however, it is precisely this courage that often pays off. Our toolbox for the right path is open and its enormous potential for each individual and for our world as a whole justifies every effort. Thinking for yourself and acting consistently has always been a good idea and it still is.

I enjoy the path because

the way is the goal.

(Confucius)

And I have faith in this life because

However, life, it is good.

(Goethe)

EPILOGUE

So that was it, our journey together! We have learned that the essential insights of wise people are the same over many epochs, that the most important rules for a good and serene life have been known for a very long time. Want a short summary?

Enjoy your life by happily focusing on the here and now, soaking up the small, magical moments and not worrying too much. Pursue the goals you set for yourself with enthusiasm and passion, do your thing and always be guided by your values. Don't just talk, do something. Keep learning and gaining experience by courageously pushing your boundaries, taking a good look around the world and reading a lot. Take responsibility for your life, take care of your family, nurture your friendships and help make this world a better place. Work on your financial independence early on and avoid a life on the hamster wheel by focusing on the essentials and giving experiences more importance than things you could possibly buy: travel light. Live healthy. Work hard and don't give up too soon. Be optimistic, different, creative, cooperative and fair in all your projects. Put yourself in the shoes of the people you meet and take a genuine interest in them. Be grateful for all the good things you encounter in your life. All this will ultimately lead you to a self-determined life, to success, happiness and contentment.

And please don't think that everything will always go smoothly: you make mistakes every day and you learn every single day, throughout your life.

Have fun, my dear. How I envy you!

May your path always be smooth. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun warm your face and the rain trickle gently on your fields and may God hold his hand protectively over you until we meet again.

(Irish blessing)
